Chicken breeds

  • Ayam Cemani

    This rare breed of chicken originates from Indonesia and produces small, cream colored eggs.

  • Barred Plymouth Rock

    The Barred Plymouth Rock chicken was born and raised in the United States and is a staple in many backyard flocks. This Heritage breed produces large, brown eggs.

  • Blue Ameraucana

    A sweet dispositioned, big blue chicken that lays large blue eggs. A win-win!

  • Blue Favaucana

    This unique breed is a super friendly addition to the flock. These birds lay pastel colored eggs with a blue-green hue.

  • Silver Laced Wyandotte

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte is known for its beautiful, multicolored feathers. This rare US breed produces medium sized brown eggs.

  • Dark Brahma

    The Dark Brahma is one of the oldest chicken breeds, originating from Asia. These birds lay large, medium-brown colored eggs.

  • Easter Egger

    These friendly chickens were first discovered in South America, and are unique in their wide range of colors. Their playful name comes from their equally diverse egg colors, ranging from blue to green to pink. No two chickens look alike!

  • Light Brahma

    The Light Brahma chicken is a gentle breed that originates from Asia. They produce large, brown eggs.

  • Olive Egger

    These fluffy chickens are excellent at laying eggs in the winter. As their name indicates, these birds lay green eggs.

  • Partridge Olive Egger

    This chatty breed is a cross between Welsummers and Legbars. The result is usually a green egg, although some (depending on the genetics) will lay a pink egg.

  • Super Blue Egg Layer

    These friendly, white chickens lay some of the most highly soughtafter, large blue eggs. They lay almost an egg a day, hence the name "super"! Our Baby Blue's eggs won 1st place in the Montgomery Co Fair in 2023!

  • Welsummer

    The Welsummer breed originates from Holland. These chocolate brown birds lay large dark brown eggs, some with speckles.

  • ISA Brown

    The ISA Brown is an egg laying superstar! Specifically developed to be "egg"-cellent layers, these genetic marvels also convert food into energy extremely efficiently (maybe a bigger plus for commercial entities...). They are also some of the sweetest birds WHF has ever seen!!

  • Buff Orpington

    The Buff Orpington chicken is a British breed, developed in the late 19th century. They are a robust chicken with a sweet disposition and lay medium light brown eggs.

  • Rhode Island Red

    Probably one of the most well-known and popular breeds, RI Reds are a staple in many backyard coops. Friendly and hardy, these hens lay lots of big brown eggs.

Marans bREEDS

  • French Black Copper

    French Black Copper marans are dark in color as their name indicates. This breed is highly active and lays dark brown eggs of various sizes.

  • Blue Copper

    The striking Blue Copper breed is known for its impressive plumage. These birds lay brown eggs, slightly lighter than that of the Black Copper breed.

  • Blue Splash

    The large, multicolored Blue Splash marans are some of the sweetest birds around.

  • Golden Cuckoo

    This breed is adorned with beautiful caramel and dark brown colored feathers. Their eggs are similar in color, with a dark brown hue.

  • Wheaten

    Wheaten marans are extremely gentle. These special birds produce luxurious, dark brown chocolate colored eggs.

Quail breeds

  • Japanese Coturnix

    Japanese Coturnix quail have been raised in the US for over a century. They are popular for both eating and egg-laying, as they mature in about 8 weeks. Their eggs slightly range in color; however, they typically boast a cream hue covered in spots or bluish with speckles.

  • Northern Bobwhite

    The Northern Bobwhite quail originates from North and Central America and used to be quite common. Due to habitat loss, predation, and hunting, efforts are needed to repopulate them in the wild. Their eggs are typically small, white, and oval shaped.
